Hello! Your Research Plan looks awesome! The implementation of technology is really interesting topic. The high school I teach at recently gave iPads to all 9th and 10th grade students. The students get to keep the iPad upon completion of their high school diploma. I'm interested to see how that works out.
ReplyDeleteMy question for your research plan is in regards to a little bit of vagueness. Or maybe how it seems to include quite a bit of variables. Can you focus the research onto one specific idea? If many things change, you can't evaluate the effectiveness of one of them, only the effectiveness of all of them in tandem. So, how do you plan to evaluate the effectiveness of each step?

Thanks Eric! You make a really valid point. I have asked similar questions to myself. I wish to evaluate the kids in the areas of the new implementations on campus and correlate those improvements to each students over all improvement on campus, if that makes sense. What do you recommend i do to evaluate effectiveness?
ReplyDeleteHi, very interesting your action research. I believe it is a lot to look into curriculum, professional development, student behavior and participation. If you plan to do all this you really need to be very organized and keep yourself in a timeline to complete it. Since your goal is the implementation of interactive learning through technology to improve drop out rates; a suggestion is to guide your research to that specifically. Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you doing this across HISD, or is it confined to one campus? If so, what grade level? This sounds like a big undertaking! How exactly will you implement the technology? Will it be a specific program, or just more assignments that require technology? Also, will the kids need access to the technology at home, or can it all be done at school?
ReplyDeleteWow, you are really looking into various aspects in your research. I would recommend just focusing on a particular section since its too much. One particular aspect might be the technology only and what programs are available to help the kids pass their classes. Another Point to think about: focus on a particular high school and not all the district since it too big. Last but not least, at our district we use what it's called Odessey to help our kids. It's available online Nd they can access at home and at school. Good luck.

ReplyDeleteI like this concept. My school district has this problem as well. If you can pull together all of these aspects and come up with a viable solution, it would be of great interest to many districts around the state. I look forward to keeping abreast of you plan.
ReplyDeleteYour plan looks great but it is very extensive. Are you focusing on any particular campus within the Houston ISD or just the district in general? It is evident that you put much thought into it and I applaud you for that. I know it's been hard not being in a school on a daily basis, but you have made it work! I know your work will be appreciated and valued.
ReplyDeleteI had cut back on the amount of data in my action research plan. I agree with a lot of the other comments, that you might want to reduce the amount of data that you will be accumulating. Good Luck!
